Will Bed Bugs Go Away on Their Own?

No one wants bed bugs in their home, but the terrifying part is that they seem to be everywhere lately. Some myths claim that they can disappear. But is this true or merely assumptions? Can bed bugs go away on their own? We will talk about this question and more in this article.

You must realize that without proper treatment they never go away on their own. They can live in different climatic conditions in many areas in the home apart from the bed. There’s no such thing as waiting them out.  If you let them go untreated for weeks, they can spread and become quite nasty. A bite might not be dangerous, but there is a risk of getting a secondary infection. Allergic reactions from their bites are also hazardous.

Exterminator Inspecting for Bed Bugs

You must take actions immediately you realize that there is infestation in your home. DIY methods might help with small infestations, but getting a professional is also necessary. However, you may have to wait weeks to know if these unwanted guests have finally left their home.

How to Know if They are Gone?

After treating your home for infestation, you may wonder whether they are gone. Sadly, there’s no real way to know if the treatment worked for you. The only way to be sure is by diligently inspecting your home for the next few weeks. Check the following areas for bloodstains, shells, feces, eggs, and eggshells.

  • Carpets
  • Couches and furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Light switches and electrical outlets
  • Baseboard and walls
  • Headboards and bed frames

Prevent Bed Bugs from Returning

While you diligently inspect your home, make sure to clean and vacuum your home regularly. Bed bugs aren’t drawn to dirt. But cleaning can kill them, especially when you wash your beddings at very high temperature.  Don’t forget to vacuum regularly as well. Vacuuming can pick up these pests alongside other insects. You should always encase box springs and mattresses to prevent them from going into your mattress.

They are highly resistant to a lot of things. However, they can’t go away on their own. Make sure you deal with them as soon as you find signs of infestation. Check and prevent these unwanted guests from coming into your home from time to time. If ever you find them returning, don’t panic. Identify the reasons why and call the exterminator immediately.
